ST. PETERSBURG/CLEARWATER AREA

The St. Petersburg/Clearwater Area offers the best of both worlds: the cultural diversity, fine restaurants and designer shops of a big city coupled with the quirky souvenir shops, white-sand beaches and friendly atmosphere of a laidback beach town.

Here are some great pre- and post-meeting ideas to share with your attendees

  • When sunset comes, everyone goes to Clearwater Beach's Pier 60 for the nightly celebration or to The Pier in St. Petersburg for spectacular views.

  • Shop, dine, and play the day away at BayWalk in St. Petersburg, an outdoor piazza filled with clothing and specialty stores, restaurants, and a movie theater.

  • Clearwater Beach and St. Pete Beach are both lively and family-friendly, with pick-up volleyball games, swimsuit-clad co-eds, and kids digging their way to China. Both also offer their fair share of beach bars, so you don't have to leave the sand to get a cold drink and fish sandwich, or hear some live local music.

  • Show your swashbuckling side to your kids on Captain Nemo's Pirate Cruise; keep your eyes peeled for marine life on a dolphin cruise; or dine and dance under the stars on a dinner cruise.

  • Head to downtown St. Petersburg, a museum mecca, to visit the Salvador Dalí Museum, Florida International Museum, the Florida Holocaust Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts – all are within walking distance of one another, as well as a bevy of local galleries.

  • Explore history at Fort De Soto Park: tour the 1898 fort, which once helped defend Tampa Bay; then visit the adjacent beach, once named the best in America by "Dr. Beach."

  • Kayak to the secluded beaches of Caladesi, Honeymoon, and Shell Islands.

  • Immerse yourself in Greek culture in Tarpon Springs, where you can watch a sponge diving demonstration, sample authentic baklava and other Greek cuisine, and learn the history of the area's Greek immigrants.

  • Play where the pros do at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club's Copperhead Course, home to the PGA TOUR's Chrysler Championship.

  • Immerse yourself in the "healing waters" of Safety Harbor Resort and Spa – the 2,000-year-old natural mineral springs that run beneath the resort were once thought to be the Fountain of Youth.
